When I am on vacation I want to look glowy, fresh and have a skincare routine that is easy and simple. I'd rather spend my time at the beach or pool than getting ready, you know what I mean? This last trip I kept it super simple with a 5 step routine and I want to share that with you today. My skin is combination-oily in the summer and this keeps me balanced, shine-free, and protected from the sun. This is very basic, just what you would want for a day at the beach or poolside sipping mojitos.
Step 1: Cleanse with a clarifying cleanser. This one from Tata harper has AHA & BHA to keep your skin clean, unclog pores and remove dead skin, so you can keep that glow going.
The benefits of AHA & BHA:
decrease inflammation, a key marker of acne, rosacea, and other skin concerns
decrease the appearance of large pores and surface wrinkles
even out your skin tone
improve overall skin texture
remove dead skin cells
unclog pores to prevent acne
Step 2: Since my skin is a bit more oily in the summer I like to just use a hydrating serum with vitamin C. That is all I need for moisture and extra glow. My current favorite is Sunday Riley C.E.O. serum with 15% vitamin C. This hydrating antioxidant serum helps brighten, and even out any discolorations while diminishing the signs of premature aging. This helps my skin look firmer and plumper.
Benefits of Vitamin C:
Brightening
Evens out skin tone and reduces redness
Hydrating
Promotes collagen production
Protects against sun damage
Step 3: Sunscreen! I love Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40 for a multitasking sunscreen that leaves a dewy, glowy finish, protects my skin from sun damage, and adds a little moisture too. I use the two-finger method to make sure I'm getting enough coverage.
For my neck, decollete, and shoulders I put on a layer of SPF 50, the Supergoop Play Everyday Lotion is easy to apply, not sticky, and stays put. I like to add sunscreen to these areas before I even leave my bathroom as they tend to burn the most in the tropical heat of the Caribbean or any beach day really.
Step 4: Tinted Moisturizer. Just a tiny pea size to help even out my skin tone and reduce any redness. This Slip Tint by Saie is my favorite as it is a clean brand and contains 15% zinc. Now I am doubled up on sunscreen with a mineral and a broad spectrum. For me, this is a must for summer. I don't want heavy makeup and this is just enough to give me that glow and a little coverage.
Step 5: I like to finish with a little powder on my T-zone to set everything in place, reduce shine and make everything feel less sticky. The Ilia soft-focus finishing powder is amazing! It's clean with:
- Aloe: Keeps skin feeling soft and supple.
- Bamboo: Helps to balance oil and leave skin’s surface shine-free.
- Rosemary Leaf: Soothes irritation.
This kept me fresh all day. It is super light and really absorbs excess oil all day, love it! They do make a translucent powder with SPF 20 if you want to try that. I tend to prefer the white translucent powder for some reason, but I only apply it to my T-zone. The white powders can cause flashback during photos, but if you use a face mist this can help avoid that.
I just added a touch of lipgloss and then throughout the day, I would touch up once or twice with Supergood Unscreen. Since it is clear it can go on top of the makeup without messing it up. My face was protected the whole time, two weeks in Mexico in July, not even the slightest sunburn on my nose. The rest of me got bronzed despite the multiple daily applications of sunscreen, probably since I was in the water all day to keep cool. But, never-the-less, my face stayed protected with this simple routine.
